Facebook will die by December 2014

The revolutionary social network facebook is losing its hype
– quickly and could die in a couple of months. Its growth (and fading) has been
compared to a disease by scientists. Using a mathematical model, they charted
Facebook’s demise.
Facebook’s growth will eventually come to a quick end, much
like an infectious disease that spreads rapidly and suddenly dies, say Princeton researchers who are using diseases to model the
life cycles of social media.
Disease models can be used to understand the mass adoption
and subsequent flight from online social networks, researchers at Princeton’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace
Engineering say in a study released Jan. 17. The study has not been
peer-reviewed. Updating traditional models on disease spread to assume that
“recovery” requires contact with a non diseased member i.e., a nonuser of
Facebook (“recovered” member of the population)
researchers predicted that Facebook would see a rapid
decline, causing the site to lose 80% of its peak user base between 2015 and
2017.
“What appears to be the most seminal moment in a young
person’s decision to leave Facebook was surely that dreaded day your mum sends
you a friend request.”
The Global Social Media Impact Study, which was funded by
the European Union, observed 16- to 18-year-olds in eight countries for 15
months and found that Facebook use was in freefall. Instead, young people are
turning to simpler services like Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp
which Professor Miller conceded were “no match” for Facebook in terms of
functionality.
“Most of the school children in our survey recognised that
in many ways, Facebook is technically better than Twitter or Instagram. It is
more integrated, better for photo albums, organising parties and more effective
for observing people’s relationships,” said Professor Miller, adding that
“slick isn’t always best” in attracting young users.
WhatsApp has overtaken Facebook as the number one way to
send messages, say the researchers, while Snapchat has gained in popularity in
recent months by allowing users to send images which “self-destruct” after a
short period on the recipients phone in order to maintain privacy.

Snapchat claims that 350 million images are sent every day,
and reportedly recently turned down a $3 billion (£1.8 billion) acquisition
offer from Facebook. Co-founder Evan Spiegel, who lives at home with his father
despite an estimated net worth of $3 billion, last month told The Telegraph
that “deleting should be the default”.
Researchers found that close friends were using Snapchat to
communicate, while WhatsApp was used with acquaintances and Twitter broadcasted
indiscriminately to anyone who chose to follow that person.

The study found that Facebook was now used by teenagers as a
way to stay in touch with older members of their family and sibling who have
left for university and has “evolved into a very different animal” from its
early days as a social network focusing on young users at university.
Facebook, which will be a decade old next year, is currently
offering 70m shares for sale at $55.05 a share, 41m of which belong to founder
Mark Zuckerberg and are being unloaded to cover a tax bill.
The stock has climbed well above the $38 price set in
Facebook’s initial public offering 19 months ago.

Whichever website comes it will last only a half or A decade
not more than
we have seen orkut, Now Facebook will be the next orkut and
may be Google+ would be the next Facebook.
Facebook lowers people’s personal values for just about
everything now   facebook  is over-hyped in general. It became a game of
how many friends you have. Some are even more “lonely” now than
before.
Texting is another issue. We have gone from writing a letter
to calling on a phone to writing a text. Now Young people now see the facebook
as “uncool” and keep their profiles live purely to stay in touch with older
relatives, among whom it remains popular.
I don’t expect Facebook to necessarily vanish altogether.
But I think it’s finished for the young people!

The normative of the online presence seems to be just one
expression of this process, FACEBOOK THE END !!

Happy Pongal In South India

Pongal is a four day long harvest festival celebrated in the southern part of India. Observed during the month of January, it is a way of thanking nature for the gift of harvest and farming, which is one of the prime occupations of people across India. Harvest festivals have been an important part of the country’s festival calendar for as long as people have started organised farming and gathering of food. Pongal, which means ‘to boil’ in Tamil is one of the most important Hindu festivals.

Pongal is the only Hindu festival which is celebrated according to a solar calendar and falls on the fourteenth or fifteenth day of January every year. The festival also has a lot of astronomical significance attached to it, marking the beginning of the Uttarayana phase or the sun’s northwards movement for a period of six months. Uttarayana is considered especially auspicious according to Hindu traditions as opposed to Dakshinayana, which marks the movement of the sun towards the south.
Pongal marks the end of the farming season and provides the farmers a break from the hectic routine. The temples are heralded with bells and drums while the villages mark the occasion by preparing rice in pots. Offerings of rice, vegetables and sugarcane are made to the gods and the people pray for the prosperity of all.

Happy Pongal Every One !! God bless all !!

The different Types of advertisment options to Make Serious Money

The different Types of advertisment options to Make Serious Money

The whole ‘making-money-online’ phenomenon has quite a charm
to it. Much and more people are now being attracted towards this side, which I
like to call ‘the other side’ of the internet, since instead of being web-page
visitors, some people are now becoming webpage hosters, so to speak. Indeed,
for many such people, online advertising has become a major source of income.
But many people still don’t know fully well about the various advertising
options they have. So this post is all about dissimilar advertising options
that you can try out with your blog / website.

Not all ads work in the same way. Some make more revenue,
while others are interactive and help in promoting products. With ads,
placement is very important as well. Some might work in a particular place,
while other might not. Hence, you have to choose a combination that works best
for you. And with so many advertising options, there are literally several
possible combinations. It’s all a matter of trial and error. You can’t decide
on the best combination unless you haven’t tried some. meaningful your options
can pay off here.
A word on website traffic
Before you go on monetizing your blog, you first need to
take a look at your analytics stats. First of all, look at your Alexa rankings.
Only start advertising if you have a decent ranking. And in my experience,
‘decent’ means in the top 60-70,000 websites, or 100,000 at the very most! If
your rankings are below that (i.e. larger than 100,000), you should not
advertise! Work on improving your rank by various methods shared on MBT and
SEM! I might write another post on this topic soon.
Second, get a decent amount of traffic. In my opinion,
around 500-1,000 unique visitors is decent enough. If you are getting a 100 or
so visitors and think you can earn a decent living online, don’t kid yourself!
Set up a traffic goal and work hard on it before monetizing.
Why all the hassle? I know I keep on saying this, but your
success can only be guaranteed by a decent traffic and a good website ranking.
Adding adverts prematurely will do more harm than good. It might drive away
what little traffic you might have. Not only that, your bounce rate will go
high as well. But if you have a regular and important readership, the initial
impact of adding ads will be cushion.
CPC Ads
Cost-Per-Click are the simplest kind of ads. You easy put up
ads, and whenever someone clicks on them, you get paid a assured amount. The
most popular CPC ad network is Google AdSense, although it now has extended its
reach to CPM ads as well. CPC ads are generally low value, and it takes a lot
of clicks to make a decent income. Not only that, the awarding criteria is a
bit hazy as well. You don’t always get paid a fixed amount, nor do you get paid
each time. Still, this form of advertising is the most common among bloggers,
and is usually used with banners (headers and images), and with text ad blocks
within the site’s content.
CPM Ads
Cost-Per-Impression means you get paid for the number of
times an ad appears on your site. For example, let’s say an advertiser pays you
$1 for 10 impressions. Whenever someone visits your website, that ad is
displayed to them, and the required number of impressions drops by one. When 10
people visit your site, you are paid $1. Again, Google AdSense is the leading
such ad network. Usually, you are paid per 1,000 impressions. The amount can
vary a lot, from under a dollar to around $50 etc. These ads provide a steadier
income then CPC ads.

CPA Ads
CPA means Cost Per Acquisition or Action. You get paid only
when someone takes some action after clicking on your ad, such as making a sale
or leaving their email address or similar. Usually, such are have a greater
value than CPC or CPM ads. But the Acquisition rate is usually lower than CTR
(Click Through Rate). ClickBooth and MediaWhiz are both good CPA ad networks.

Image Ads
Images can be used for CPC or CPM ads. But there are
dedicated ad networks for this, such as ImageSpace Media. Image ads can be used
as pop-ups on a webpage, or pop-ups during videos like we see on YouTube.
Video Ads
YouTube is the largest video hosting site on the internet.
It allows you to sign up as a partner, after which you can integrate your
account with AdSense. Video ads are simply videos that promote or give
information about a certain product. You can use them anywhere. But people
usually don’t tend to open video ads, which is why you shouldn’t use them
frequently.

Pay Per Post
This method is gaining popularity as well. There are some
advertisers that pay you to write reviews of their products in articles or blog
posts. If you do this frequently, your readers might frown upon you. But
writing reviews every now and then can be profitable. It might even increase
your traffic, since you are drawing targeted audience for that product. This is
a must try for bloggers.
Classified Ads
Earning through classifieds is no easy task. But if you do
it properly, you could e raking in money! Classified ads are special ads which
are added by people buying, or selling products, services etc. Freelance job
ads are a good example of this. EBay is a good classifieds website where people
sell all kinds of stuff from wrist watches to cars etc.
The advantage of classifieds is that, it attracts two-fold
traffic. Advertisers as well as customers. You act as a platform between them.
And you can charge a percentage from the sales made etc. But for sales to
happen through your site, you need to have good credentials, and a good
profile, so that people will trust you.
Newsletter Ads
In newsletter advertising, publishers send out ads with
newsletters, or other information conveyed through email. These are shaky
ground, however. People get annoyed at just seeing unnecessary emails in their
inbox, let alone be grateful for ads included with them. So do this very
carefully.
Sponsorship

Getting sponsors is a job for the pros! If your website is
popular and has a decent amount of traffic, you have the option of selling ad
spots to sponsors. This will only happen if you are at the top, or near the
top, of your niche though. So build some traffic and fan following before
thinking more into this method.

What is DFP Small Business?

DoubleClick is a digital marketplace that connects ad agencies, marketers and Web site publishers( people like you and me ). It is indeed a complete toolkit to manage ads, including streamlined trafficking, targeting, advanced forecasting and reporting, revenue optimization, and direct access to advertisers

It is helpful for those publishers that are using multiple ad networks besides AdSense and wants to manage ad placements through a common control panel.  If you set an ad inventory using DFP, the advertisers can directly choose to display their ads on your spot no matter they are using adwords or other networks like chitika. You can also set up a minimum  CPC price for the inventory. DFP then lets advertisers compete/bid for that ad space and then it will display the best paying ad. Suppose if chitika was paying a higher CPC for an Ad as compared to AdSense then your ad spot will display Ads from chitika network instead of AdSense and vice versa.

Benefits of DFP

There are three major benefits of using DoubleClick that are worth noticing:

Maximize your website revenue: Since advertisers bid for you ad spot therefore you get highest-paying ads available that increases your earning potential for the selected spot. This does not mean it will increase your AdSense or any other network earning significantly.

DoubleClick Ad Exchange is a real-time marketplace partnered with the Google Display Network for buying and selling advertising. It represents another market for advertisers to bid on display advertising across the Internet. When you have a campaign that targets the Display Network, you automatically have access to Ad Exchange publisher sites that comply with AdWords’ guidelines.

Doubleclick is a business owned by Google that makes it money from online advertisers and publishers. This is done by:

Ad-serving
Online publishers use Doubleclick to display adverts on their websites.

Ad delivery
Doubleclick will let advertisers control how often an ad is shown to a browser, how long it is shown for and how often it will appear.

Behavioural targeting
This comes in two categories:

Targeting for one website owner: An online publisher can set a Doubleclick cookie to tell them what sections of their sites you are browsing. Doubleclick will then judge the type of adverts you might like to see from what you’re browsing. For example, if you are on a news website and you visit the sports pages, then adverts for match tickets may be more relevant than makeup. This information belongs to the website owner only.

Targeting in advertising networks: Google runs a service called Adsense, in which lots of different publishers pool the information they get on browsers. This helps them build up a better idea of the type of adverts someone might want to see. This is a third-party advertising cookie.

What information is Doubleclick tracking?

In their privacy policy, Google explains how data is recorded from a generic Doubleclick cookie. It looks like this:

time: 06/Aug/2008 12:01:32
ad_placement_id: 105
ad_id: 1003
userid: 0000000000000001
client_ip: 123.45.67.89
referral_url: “http://youtube.com/categories”

This tells Doubleclick the time and date you saw an advert. It also shows:
userid: the unique ID number the cookie has given your browser
ad_id: the unique ID of the advert
ad_placement_id: the ID of where the advert was seen on the site
referral_url: what page you were on when you saw the advert

Because it records your IP address, Doubleclick can also make a good guess of your country and town/city, too.
